MySpace woes

Those of you who've had difficulty creating a MySpace account: We feel your pain. There have been some very peculiar and seemingly inexplicable problems brought to our attention—where one browser seems to work for some, it won't for others, and some participants have used up to three different browsers before successfully registering. This may have to do with whether the browsers in question are updated to the current version, but in testing IE, Firefox, and Netscape on both Windows and OSX (as well as Safari on the latter), test accounts were successfully created without fail....

So, some pointers:

  • All fields on the registration page with red type must be completed. Should you wish to 'create' a birth date, you may, but there must be something entered in that field.
  • Be sure you've entered a valid e-mail address.
  • Make certain the password you enter contains numbers as well as letters.
  • Don't forget to enter your gender/sex (easy to miss as it's the only field that's not a drop-down list).
  • And don't forget to check the box at the bottom next to 'By checking the box you agree to the MySpace Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.' (Why didn't they make that red too?)

And if all else fails, use a different browser...and please do let us know of your experience. We're happy to help, which we hope this does!

#5a: Publishing your blogroll

If you'd like to publish your blog roll (see the advanced part), the first thing you'll have to do is set up a user name. This is different than the email account name you used to login to Bloglines. You can choose any name, it just has to be unique. It also cannot contain spaces, dashes (-), or slashes (/). For example, Joe Smith wouldn't work but JoeSmith will work.

To set your user name, click on Account in the upper right hand corner of the Bloglines screen and then click the Blog Settings tab. Enter your desired user name in the user name box. Make sure the box next to Yes, publish my Blogroll is checked. Then click save changes. It will give tell you if that username is already taken but another user.

If you're having problems, stop by the drop-in session on Thursday at 11:00, or leave a comment on that blog entry (or this one) and the Learning 2 team will be happy to lend a hand.
